Rehearse with the Adjudicator: A Unique Musical Opportunity Returns to AFYM 2025
The Abertawe Festival for Young Musicians is thrilled to bring back one of its most popular events for the 2025 season: the Rehearse with the Adjudicator class!
After last year’s incredible success, we’ve expanded this unique opportunity for musicians of all ages and abilities to rehearse and perform with world-class adjudicators.
What’s New For 2025?
This year, we’re inviting woodwind and brass players to join a Windband rehearsal with renowned adjudicator Kevin Price, and string players can look forward to a combined string orchestra rehearsal led by Ben Tarlton.
We’re also excited to offer a special session for cellists, who will form a combined cello ensemble, also under the expert guidance of Ben Tarlton. The ensembles will explore movements from Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite (for strings), A Tribute to Glenn Miller (for woodwind and brass), and a stunning version of Vivaldi’s double concerto written for the cello ensemble.
Additionally, pianists will have the opportunity to play duets or larger piano ensembles (up to six or eight hands) with Professor Robin Green! Performers can either choose from a selection of pieces, including works by Rachmaninov, Chaminade, and Debussy, or bring their own choice to the class.
This isn’t just for large ensembles either—smaller groups, like quartets and octets, are also welcome. The adjudicators will even join in and perform alongside you, making this a truly collaborative and exciting experience.
How To Get Involved
Participation is open to musicians of all levels, from Grade 1 to Grade 8 and beyond. The music is designed to ensure that everyone, no matter their ability, has a part that suits their skill level.
To secure your spot and get the music ahead of time, please contact Helen Turbervill at [email protected]. Helen will provide the sheet music so you can practise before the festival weekend.
🎹 Suggested Piano Repertoire
Please find below some suggested repertoire for the Rehearse With Adjudicator on Piano.
Professor Robin Green will play the hardest part in each piece, which is usually the bottom/secondo parts. This is by no means a definitive list. Performers can play other repertoire, but please contact Helen to let her know your choice so classes can be scheduled together.
